Ceremony<\/span><\/h4>\n

From a bedroom in Rohnert Park to the sold out Hollywood Palladium, Ceremony has navigated a wild path through life and music, and they\u2019re not done yet. Vocalist Ross Farrar recently took the time to look back at the band\u2019s trajectory, memorable moments, experiments, and so much more and graciously answered my questions about all of it. \u201cI go to shows or play shows and I\u2019m a part of an event in time with lots of history,\u201d muses Ross as he thinks back on his time in punk and hardcore, \u201cI\u2019m a part of that history now and can help kids get into other forms of music as they find their way. Ceremony is a doorway like that, I hope.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speed<\/span><\/h4>\n

Speed\u2019s mission to breathe life into Sydney hardcore has clearly been a success beyond their wildest dreams, and in the six years they\u2019ve been together as a band, they\u2019ve accomplished so much more, championing hardcore all around the world and upholding the ethos and values hardcore culture was built on every step of the way. \u201cIt\u2019s been an insane ride, the craziest year of our lives,\u201d begins vocalist Jem Siow when asked to recall Speed\u2019s journey over last year since the release of Only One Mode on Flatspot and Last Ride Records. \u201cWe\u2019ve been around the world three or four or so times, hung out with amazing people, lost a lot of sleep\u2026\u201d Jem graciously took some time to talk about the origins of the band, their incredible journey together, and what hardcore means to him.<\/p>\n

Touch\u00e9 Amor\u00e9<\/span><\/h4>\n

There are few lyricists more willing to lay it all on the line than Touch\u00e9 Amor\u00e9\u2019s Jeremy Bolm, and he, along with his bandmates, have spent nearly two decades together traveling the world and making music from the heart that speaks to the soul. \u201cWe love each other, and the music and motivation still exists. So, we do, too,\u201d observes Jeremy of the band\u2019s longevity, and recently he took the time to talk with me about the band\u2019s prolific trajectory, what keeps them coming back album after album, and the story behind the band\u2019s latest album, Spiral In A Straight Line, out last Fall on Rise Records.<\/p>\n

Death Threat<\/span><\/h4>\n

Formed out of the CTHC scene in 1997, Death Threat broke the mold with a sound as unique as the band itself, and in 2000, when the band was looking for a new guitar player, Wes Fortier was tapped to fill in when founding member CJ left. Twenty five years later Wes, Steve Teo, Aaron Butkus, and Jamie Pushbutton are still just as excited to be making music and playing shows together as they were in the beginning .Wes graciously took some time to answer my questions about his history in Death Threat, some of his favorite memories with the band and what they\u2019ve been up to recently. Death Threat will forever be not only one of my favorite bands musically, but one that truly represents to me the capacity of hardcore to provide both an outlet and connection.<\/p>\n

Barbarians of California<\/span><\/h4>\n

Lifelong veterans of punk and hardcore, the duo behind The Barbarians of California, Eric Stuntman (Tinfed, producer for Deftness, Senses Fail, Gameface and more) and Aaron Bruno (AWOLNATION, Insurgence) are returning to their roots and leaving no holds barred. Their debut album, And Now I\u2019m Gnashing My Teeth, written during the pandemic and entirely DIY produced, is full of heavy, anti-authoritarian anthems laced with raw riffs, melodic hooks, and the spirit of the scenes that shaped them. In this interview, Eric and Aaron took the time to answer a few questions about how punk and hardcore shaped their lives and careers, and the full circle experience of bringing The Barbarians of California to life.<\/p>\n

Palehorse<\/span><\/h4>\n

Formed in Connecticut in 2003, Palehorse is heavy, thrash influenced, metallic hardcore matched with equally scathing lyrics. An apoplectic commentary on our seemingly apocalyptic times. While Palehorse found themselves on a hiatus of sorts for a few years, in 2022, jolted to action by his brother\u2019s suicide, vocalist Vinny Calandra felt inspired to breathe new life back into the band. \u201cWe\u2026got something to prove as a band, unfinished business.\u201d With the recent release of No Longer Secrets on Heroes & Martyrs Records, a comprehensive compilation of the band\u2019s catalog, Palehorse are ready to throw themselves back in the mix with plenty of shows and new music in the works. In this interview, I had a chance to talk to Vinny about his history with the band, what inspires his music and writing, and the new music he \u201ccan\u2019t wait to unleash\u2026on the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Punitive Damage<\/span><\/h4>\n

A self-proclaimed \u201cfast, loud, and pissed off hardcore punk\u201d band from the Pacific Northwest, Punitive Damage are on a mission to raise their voices, and the volume, as a positive force for change. \u201cI genuinely do not believe you can be a hardcore band without politics,\u201d declares vocalist Jerkova, \u201cI think that\u2019s the spice of life with hardcore, digging your toes in the ground and standing [up for] your convictions and values with your whole chest.\u201d And that\u2019s exactly what Punitive Damage have done with their latest EP, Hate Training (2024, Convulse Records), six blistering tracks of unfiltered rage and condemnation of the horrific events that are unfolding before our eyes in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon. In this interview, Jerkova took the time to talk about the history and mission of Punitive Damage as well as what inspired them to write such a pointedly scathing EP and their take on the power of music and community in activism.<\/p>\n

Torena<\/span><\/h4>\n

With a rich history in punk and hardcore, Oxnard, California has produced countless renowned and influential bands like Stalag 13, Dr. Know, In Control, Ill Repute, and now\u2026 Torena. Devastatingly heavy and committed to the traditional ethos and spirit of hardcore, Torena carry the torch of Nardcore for a new generation and I recently had the chance to speak with vocalist\/guitar player Julien Urias about the band, their latest release, No Control, and how it feels to act as new generation torchbearers for the legendary Oxnard scene.<\/p>\n
